A Geekish View of Life

::sniffffffff:: We bid a fond farewell to one of the mainstays of my online comic addiction. D101. Ms.Hicks, thank you for all your hard work. If I weren’t broke I would subscribe for Ice. But for myself and so many other fans of your work, thank you, thank you thank you! I look forward to being able to afford subscriptions again. ::sigh:: Stupid school … stupid lack of part time work … stupid 45 minute commute to school. Yes, $30 a year isn’t so bad … unless you don’t have $30 or if the buxxorz you do have are already “spoken for”.

The other day while helping my Dad clean up our old vanagon to get it ready to sell an interesting thing happened. A kid, maybe 10 years old, rolled by on his skateboard. I use the term rolled loosely only because the lines in the sidewalk would constantly cause him to tip over his board. This would not be noteable if it were not for the fact that the kid reminded me of myself.

• He was kinda small and had glasses

To me it seemed much like I did at that age. I had glasses and I have never been of any great stature.

• He was decked out in safety gear

My Mom always made be put on full gear, even if I was just rolling around the street. He lucked out in that his parents only made him wear a helmet.

• He was rather unsure of how to really ride the skateboard

The bit with the skateboard really hit home. I was just old enough to be entrhalled by my older friends and their skateboards. That and I watched the videos of Tony Hawk and felt in awe. Also I knew I was rather a dork so I hoped that the skateboard would give me “cool” creds. Heh, what they don’t tell you is that you have to ride well before you get “cool creds”, also they don’t tell you that you spend nearly as much time on your back as you do standing up. I still have yet to truely master even one trick on my skateboard. I found being a geek far less painful, if socially handicaping. But that seems to be turning around … so I don’t mind so much. ^_^ That means I’m a happy lil’ geek.

• At one point he seemed to be talking to noone in particular
• He was alone

The talking to noone in particular and being alone really made me take notice. Mostly because I’m an only child and what he was doing reminded me of all the things I used to do when I was all alone. It was a little scary seeing him. I felt like I was in some weird time loop where I was looking at an alternate version of myself.

Yeh. Weird. That is all. You may now return to your regulary scheduled odditiy.

Hey all. It’s me again. I’m having weird driver issues with my computer. I have to uninstall my modem when I shut down or I can’t put my laptop into sleep/hibernate mode. ::scratches head:: Weird.

Well it’s almost 4th of July! w00t! BIG pretty ’splosions! ::drool:: The down side is all the morons who have to test out their explosives before time. Just now there have been at least 3 large annoying explosions. I don’t mind fireworks, nor big bang boom making thingies. However a time an a place for everything. Now is not the time, nor is this the place. For starters it’s illegal and second of all it’s kinda annoying. When you want to sleep and things are going all boom boom boom it’s very hard. That is part of the reason soldiers in the first world war got shell shocked. They couldn’t sleep, which does things to the brain. Medical studies have proven that you go a bit batty when you don’t sleep. And I’m crazy enough as it is, ::wink wink :: so let’s not make the problem any worse, hm?

In Other News

On Wednesday I went to the Boardwalk with my girlfriend and her sister and her boy friend. That was fun. We did the two coasters, the “spinny-egg-spinny” ferris wheel, bumper cars, and the skyway thingie. But the high light was hanging out with my lady. ^_^ Ooo! We also had dinner at this truly splendid vegetarian restaurant. Yes, vegetarian. I didn’t know what to expect but I am always up for trying new things and I have nothing against vegi food … I just like my meat. Mmmmmm yummy steaks. ::drool:: But back to the real food. It was delicious!! I mean really really really frigging good! If all vegi food was this good I might consider switching. ::ponder:: No … because that means no ribs. But it was sooooooo delicious. I had Schumann broccoli. It was a Chinese inspired dish with tofu instead of meat. Before you make a face this was good tofu. Yes, tofu can be tasty but it has to be very well prepared and seasoned. This was extremely well prepared and seasoned. When I get the name of it I’ll post it. It makes another reason to go to Santa Cruz.
