Eisner Awards! Comic geeks rejoice!
This is a time of great celebration for all comic fans. Or as I should say, “sequental art” fans. Technically there is more to sequential art than just comics. But that is the primary medium.
For those who don’t know Will Eisner was, he passed away this year :tear:, the farther of the modern comic anaylsis. Superman made it happen, but Will Eisner made it an art form to be studied. He helped ligitmize comics as a from of art and to help raise the awarness of the greater and deeper aspects of what the drawings could do.
The nominees for this year are here. Of speical note to me are the digital comics, aka online comics. All of them are worth the time. Mom’s Cancer is really a wonderful and touching story. I kinda hope it wins. I guess I have more of a connection to it since my grandfather died of stomach cancer a few years ago. That said there is something really wonderful about Copper and Oijngogo. More stuff to add to my long list of online comics.

Sabers, sabers, and more sabers.
I recently downloaded the .tv show From The Shadows box 2.0. In it they feature a young man who will remind many of you of a certian person from the Trekkies films. But his ligitimacy as a Jedi is an issue for some other debate. I am more interested in the super cool ‘Dual Sabers‘ he has made. In my geek quest to understand more of this amazing ideas I have been directed to three other locations for sabers and saber replicas. All of these are damn cool. Although it seems to me that the sabers from Aaron over at Saberology seem like they would be the best for actual ‘combat’. In all honesty they all look like lightsabers, and I’m sure that anyone who has ever dreamed of being a Jedi would feel absolutely giddy to hold any of them. But if you’re gonna be playing with them and restaging the classic duals of the movies … these seem like they’d be more likely to hold up to that sort of use/abuse.
The others (Park Sabers and Lightech) feature el (electro luminessence) technology which gives them their super rad glow. The downside to the EL stuff is that it has a filiment in the blade. Although very though I’m thinking that if you beat it enough it will break … which isn’t cool. Up side is that it is fairly easy to replace, all the sites have a ‘parts’ section so you can just reorder what you really need.
I am not really sure what goes into the Master Replicas over at the Offical StarWars shop. But damn are they nice. They have the ‘rising’ glow and offical sound effects that react to motion and contact. ^_____^ However there is a new addon for the Lightech sabers which will also give those results. So cool stuff all around.
Where am I going with this. Well 1) how cool is it to get your own saber! 2) how cool is it that there are people who are creative and have come up with ways of representing something that only exists in speical effects. Also never underestimate the creativity and resourcefulness of a geek on a mission.
But my real reason for writing all this drivel is that I am facinated by this new concept in content delivery. Some have looked at Podcasting as “Wayne’s World for the internet.” But I think this idea of content that we choose when and how we watch our content is reall interesting. Right now it really is hampered by the limits of the internet and video compression.I can only imagine where this could go if there were no limitations! ::drool:: Content … that didn’t seem like the same crap that every other network was showing! Mmmmmm. Plus it could also be super geeky and that makes me happy! Anyway something to ponder. Television, the way you want it.
Ooooo! That makes two that I know of.
Well, some of us saw it, others suspected it, and everyone is celebrating it. My friend Mandy from church was just proposed to! YUP, Randy, her now fiance Purposed today! Yeeeeeeee! Waiiiii~! Excite ment! That means that two people I know are headed to the alter! Nice. ^_____________________________^ Go Mandy! Go Laura! w00t!
Better than iTunes?
Over at Wired news an interesting story showed up. It is about alittle software that will allow Windows users to use WinAmp instead of iTunes for their music organizer. This has been one of the major complaints that some Win users have had about the use of an iPod on the PC. Personally I’m all for iTunes, but I can understand why long time WinAmp users will want to stay with that.
Geeking out moment!
I am downloading systm episode 1 … and the torrent topped out at 394.8 kB/s! Yeeeeeeee! I’m geeking out! That’s so rad! I received 157.4 MB in Less than 5 min. How HOT is that!
Along those lines, if anyone of you remember the joy that was TechTV and The Screen Savers you need to check out the This Week In Tech podcast. Nearly the whole crew is back to shoot the breeze and have a grand ol’ time talking tech … like they used to. ::sniff:: God Bless pod casting!Okay now to shower and run errands.
I am such a happy geek right now.
Whirlwind of a week
It has been interesting … I’m too tired right now to say much more than that. Look here again tomorrow for more.
Mmmm … Snuggles
I just spent the past two days with Elaine! Hurray! Not to brag … but I have the best girlfriend ever! But I’m very biased. ^_^ It’s a good thing.
Just in case you felt like there was nothing really worth watching coming out … watch this!
Good, Bad, Ugly
Good
Mitsu, aka Scoop, one of the most creative people in my painting 3 class showed an astonishing painting today for critique. The painting was of a 5′ tall baby face. But that’s not the cool bit. The cool part was that he hung it outside the windows of the critique room. It was one of the coolest art experiences I’ve had at school. Damn him and his amaing powers of creativity.
Bad
One of my best friends in my painting class found out, over the weekend, that the boy she has been dating and having sex with was actually cheating on her. Yes. He already has a girlfriend that he lives with. (This guy is an a– h—) But wait there’s more. To add insult to injury he gave my friend an STD, nothing too serious but still, it’s the principle of the matter. OH and to top it all off when the A- Hole found out that my friend and the ‘other’ girlfriend knew the other existed he had the gall to call up my friend and blame her for putting drama into his life! WTF! ARG! Someone needs to give him a good swift kick to the jimmies, and then a few more just to make sure he gets the picture. Grrr! Makes me mad to hear that my friends have been used!
Ugly
Um … showed my paintings in critique. Yah … new subject.
