A New Challenger!

Well we added a new player to our weekly gaming session.  It was pretty cool.  She’s a human rouge and her first combat action was an epic win, crit with a dagger thrown through a wall of magical darkness.  Yup pretty cool.  Plus it’s nice to see the group expand a little, fresh blood can make a game session much more interesting.  I look forward to seeing what she can do when the rules become less of a stumbling block.

Self Examination … and maybe a little rebuke

Background:

Today I was listening to Webcomics Weekly, specifically episode #40. Nothing unusual there. But where it gets a little interesting is when they start talking about SDCC (San Diego Comic Convention). It starts with the usual stress of getting to con and getting your stuff to con. But then one of the questions they discuss is about people who come up to them at SDCC looking for a critique. I won’t really go into what they said since you can listen to it for yourself. Suffice to say … I saw a lot of myself in some of the comments they were making. Not in the “Oh F*#%! I’m that guy” kind of way, but in the manner of the fact that I know how that guy feels. Wha? Why?

In the back of my mind I’ve always thought it’d be cool to do a comic. I’ve even dreamed up a couple of comics, like any good comic geek. But … even though I went to school for art and have a fair grasp of creative writing I’ve not turn them into anything. Is this horrible? No. But it does give me pause. Why did I go to school for art? Should I even have bothered? Because usually when I have to do art … I sluff it off and ignore it till I have almost no time to execute it … and then it’s not as good as I wanted it and have a certain amount of distaste for it. One of the few times I was actually quite pleased with how something turned out was when I did this piece [deviantart]. I did all of it within … um … 2 weeks or round about that. I felt all pumped up about it … and I haven’t really felt it since.

I realize that the “true” test of art is pushing through the dry spells … but if the dry spell lasts long enough … should one stop? I haven’t actually answered this yet … it was just something I was pondering today. My FiancĂ©e would probably chastise me a bit for that … but that’s a separate issue. I have been busy with all manner of projects … and I wonder if I am driving myself to distraction. And if I am what am I afraid of? What is it in me that pushes away that which I was ran after?

Meh. No real answers here … just thinking out loud on the interwebs.

Honeymoon Location is Found. w00t!

We found our Honeymoon destination. It is Kauai! The “Garden Island”, and if the photos are anything to judge by … it will live up to that name. Our first location is a small cottage in a six acre plot. Sumptuous! But the place doesn’t have availability for the whole week we planned … so we’re thing of splitting the time. We may hop to Maui to go to a B&B that’s right on the beach there. But we’ll see how it all works out. Anyway I’ll probably upgrade my flickr account to pro before we go so we can post up some of the luscious photos of Hawai’i.

Well well well … I’m still breathing.

I know that this doesn’t really come as a shock to any of you as most of the people that read this drivel also know me in RL. But some big things have been happening in the three months I’ve been away from this space.

  1. Finished my electronics class.
  2. Started a new website with some friends.
  3. Got freaking ENGAGED!!

That’s right. I’m not just in a long term (4 years 2 months and 9 days) loving relationship with my girlfriend; I am now on my way to being permanently in a loving relationship with my wife to be! (Who is the same person as my GF just in case I was a little too vague.) I’m so freaking excited! We’re getting married this year! Yup September 26 is our date! It’s so close I can almost taste the cake. I’ll probably be posting more about that as it happens.

Okay back to the other stuff … um … the class is done … meh.

New site. Yes, I think I have a pretty talented group of friends. And it sometimes struck me that we really don’t have many avenues to express that. So I figured a multi-author blog could be the ticket. So after some deliberation over name and content ideas we ended up at Professional Procrastinators, which is a media blog of sorts. Basically it’s out little geek space, but we really hope you like it too. I’m currently lagging on my part since I’m doing some customizing of the theme template so that our blog will look better. But once that’s mostly done I’ll be all over the blog again.

That is all I have time for right now.
