Author Interview with Alina Sayre

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Alina Sayre, author of The Iluminator’s Gift. A fantasy novel for 9-14 year olds.

Synopsis of the novel:

Ellie is a twelve-year-old orphan who desperately wants a family. She just doesn’t expect to find one when she joins the crew of The Legend, a flying ship in a secret rescue fleet. On board, she meets a boy with a pet tarantula, a bully with eyes like mirrors, and a librarian who can read eighteen languages. Unexpectedly, Ellie also discovers a powerful gift that only she can wield. But when The Legend is called to a dangerous rescue mission, Ellie risks losing everyone she loves. Will her mysterious gift be enough to save her and her friends from a deadly enemy bent on destroying their world?

It’s a Heart Thing

Today I sat down at the computer and did my usual start up; open GMail, start Tweetie (v 1, computer is too old to run the new Twitter for Mac [sad face]), open Facebook, open Google Reader, open my Start.io page with my comics links. And normally that’s about as deep as that goes. If there’s some funny or neat thing I’ll reTweet or what have you. But today … well it was a little different.

One of the people I follow is Nathan Smith he is a web designer out of Texas. He often posts very good things, but today he dropped a bomb on me. He linked to a TED talk about vulnerability by Brene Brown [twitter, website] (link to video at the end of this post). Continue reading It’s a Heart Thing

These links brought to you from the tomes of LifeHacker

I am an insufferable geek, although my girlfriend tells me it’s cute.  I also have a long and abiding desire to get my crap together.  Through productivity guru Merlin Mann (yeah his name is really Merlin) I came across the idea of the “Life Hack” a way to shortcut the things in life that could be more efficent.  This also introduced me to the site LifeHacker.com [link]  The huge amount of life hacks there is like drinking from a fire hose.  Anyway here’s a few highlights that I came across while clearing out my RSS reader.

There is plenty more to be had there.  Go check it out, there are also tons of linux/windows/mac tips, trick, and small hacks too!
